This is a clean, comfortable, chic building to live in. It is close to the train, but the building is quiet. I just moved to the city and the area is fun, young, and accessible to just about anything you would want and need. There’s always a cute dog to pet and someone in the lobby to say hi to, I would recommend the area and the building to someone moving in the area.

I have lived at Cortland River North for around 2 years and I recommend it. I love the views from my balcony, the spacious kitchen and beautiful appliances, the gym, the prime location, and more. Cortland is on a quieter block in River North, so you are a few minute's walk (literally) to the best bars and restaurants in the city but don't have to worry about noise or gatherings directly outside your building. Its perfect. The staff and management at the building is best in class. Imani, Tiara, and the maintenance team are all the best I have experienced across many buildings. Cortland River North offers incredible value for the price point and I highly recommend living here.

We've absolutely loved living at 220 W Illinois and are sad to be moving out—only because we're relocating to a new city. This building has truly felt like home. The apartment itself is in excellent condition, and the entire building is always spotless. The maintenance team is incredibly responsive, consistently handling any issues quickly and efficiently. Management has been communicative and easy to work with, and a huge shout out to Imani, who has been especially supportive, responsive, and kind throughout our time here. The amenities are top-tier—we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the gym and pool, which are always well-maintained. The front door staff are warm and welcoming, and have made coming home feel special every day. Though we're excited for our next chapter, we’ll truly miss the community and comfort of 220 W Illinois. It’s been a wonderful experience, and we’re so grateful for the time we've spent here.

Cortland is such a great property and a wonderful place to live! I moved to Chicago from a different state, and the team here made move-in so easy and were so accomodating with the transition. Building management in general, and especially Imani, have been so helpful since my partner and I showed interest in moving here, and she continues to be an excellent resource and Resident Experience Manager. You can tell all the staff care about the residents, and it’s made such a huge difference in our experience. We can’t imagine living anywhere else!

This is the second Cortland building I've lived in. The community and staff the management group hires is always amazing. One of the best perks of Cortland apartments is the ability to move to other communities in their portfolio for a fee rather than breaking a lease. I would recommend this building to anyone.

I can't say enough good things about Cortland River North! This building is incredibly dog-friendly, which is a huge plus for pet owners like me. The staff, especially Imani, is so helpful and kind. Maintenance requests are always handled promptly, which is a relief. I've moved around a lot in Chicago, but Cortland is the first place that truly feels like home. The building is located on a quiet street (amazing location too) in river north which is great because you don’t hear noise from outside like you do at other buildings. The staff here is amazing as well- especially Imani, Herman, and Tiara. They really take the time to get to know you and are extremely kind and welcoming. When you put in a maintenance request- they literally show up at your door within minutes. The apartment complex is very clean and modern as well. I highly recommend living here!

I moved into a one bedroom in late November, and everything has been spectacular thus far, particularly the warmth and friendliness of the staff. From the individuals in the management office to the doormen/women and all those in-between, everyone goes above and beyond to be not only kind and outgoing, but incredibly helpful and proactive too. Each time I enter or exit the building, I'm greeted by someone with a genuine smile on their face, and it turns my entire mood around. Even taking this a step further - one day last week, the doorman/woman was out, so they brought in a very temporary individual to take their place - even he, without being asked, came to voluntarily help me to carry my dozens of heavy moving boxes out to the trash. The apartment itself is beautiful - I still can't get over the size of my private balcony (nearly 400sqft) and can't wait to take better advantage of it when the weather warms up. After living at Cortland for a year and a half, I cannot explain how amazing this apartment is. Imani is the BEST. She's responsive and overall just such a pleasure to speak to. Great gym, breathtaking views from the 25th floor lounge and overall a great place to live if you're looking for a balcony, w/d and hardwood floors. Not to mention that the maintenance is efficient, if I put in an order, they'd have it fixed that same day or the next. Only downside is having two elevators, but I did not mind it and the wait times were never that bad.

I am leaving the building after 3 years and I cannot say enough good things about Imani. She was so helpful from the very beginning when we first met with her regarding signing the lease. She continued to keep up a relationship with my roommate and I and then later helped me and my boyfriend find a unit that we loved! I lived in another Chicago apartment building before this one and the kindness Imani showed to me was unmatched. She really did make this feel like home and was always available to answer any questions. Also shoutout to Herman and his team and Tiara at the front desk! I've lived here for over 4 years and I just transfer to a 2 bedroom. The apartments are spacious and updated with modern appliances. I love the no-show kitchen and our dog loves and we value the dog run (especially during the cold months or late nights). Its also a great location - so close to so many restaurants, Chicago activities, and even the river walk. The staff at the building is so friendly and even more helpful. We have lived at this property for about a year now and it has been a fantastic experience! The building has a ton of great amenities: pool, grill-out patio area, in-building dog-run and dog wash area, a well-equipped gym and that is all on one floor. They also have a great 25th floor common area with pool table, kitchen, seating areas, and three TV screens with individual cable boxes. And the views from the 25th floor are incredible! There are two factors which uniquely set this building apart from the other, many buildings you could live in downtown. First, for some reason there are so many low buildings around this one that it creates a beautiful urban horizon - especially on the east side of the building, which is also where the pool grand grill-out patio area faces. First let’s start with the management, i lived downtown for many years and in many different buildings and i always had issues with management being rude and not helpful. It’s not the case here. Imani has been amazing since the day i met her and she really cares about making sure the residents are happy. She always responds to my emails with a timely matter and anything i need she’s there . I can’t give her enough stars to thank her for everything . Also the building itself is in a great location , beautiful units and maintenance on site whenever you need anything . I’ve been living here a little over a week now. When touring places to living in Chicago, Cortland River North was the first out of ten other places I went to see. You’d think after seeing the tenth apartment, I’d forget all about Cortland River North, but that ended up being quite the opposite - my experience with Imani on the first tour lingered on throughout the entire day! She was incredibly thorough with the tour (I saw about 3 apartments in the building) and took time to answer all questions and even followed up afterwards. Prior to me showing up, she had selected some units she thought I’d like and took time to tour every single one in detail. Imani has such a sweet and genuine energy, it’s very hard to bypass that. There were some changes I had to make to my move in date and she was very accommodating to all my last minute changes :D The building itself is kept very well, and the staff has been so pleasant and helpful since day 1. Wow, I moved in 3 days ago and feel at home already. The staff here have an energizing warmth that I haven't experienced living in other complexes. Imani and Brianna made the move-in process smooth; they approached each interaction with genuine smiles and intentionality (despite the semi-chaotic energy my roommate and I brought the day of move-in and with our tight timeline). Imani really has been the perfect one-woman welcome committee to Cortland. She talks about the cleaning staff, Brianna, and Tieara with excitement in her voice, which gives me an "I'm proud to work here!" vibe. The facilities look brand new despite that things were built in 2015. Imani mentioned how there are plans to continue improving facilities, like expanding the gym. There are feelings all around that they constantly want to be improving the already-wonderful atmosphere. The front desk folks - especially Tieara - have remembered our names and unit number, proactively bringing out packages when we walk by. This does not go unnoticed.

I’ve lived here for over 4 years and would recommend this building to anyone that wants to be in River North, but on a block that isn’t so congested. I typically speak with Imani, in the leasing office, for any needs and she’s always so nice and accommodating. Along with Imani, longtime staff members Tiara, Herman and Isias do a fantastic job at the security desk, any maintenance needs and being so sweet to my dog. This is a dog-friendly building and although I’m not always available for every event, there have been a lot of cool community events organized so we have an easy opportunity to meet our neighbors. So happy I settled here!
