Cortland Awarded PREA 2025 ESG Momentum Award
Cortland April 1, 2025
ATLANTA, April 1, 2025 – Cortland is honored to announce that it has won the PREA 2025 ESG Momentum Award* for its Cortland Growth and Income Fund (CGI). PREA’s ESG awards were introduced to recognize private equity real estate funds at the forefront of the industry in terms of creating value and mitigating risk through the consideration of environmental and social factors in real estate investment. The Momentum award specifically recognizes industry-leading and innovative approaches to ESG issues among open- and closed-end real estate funds, and/or significant recent advances in ESG outcomes.
"This recognition is a testament to Cortland's ongoing commitment to integrating environmental, social, and governance principles into our business to deliver resident experiences and solutions at our communities that go beyond expectations and drive enhanced investment performance," said Jason Kern, President of Investment Management at Cortland.
This is the fifth year PREA has presented its PREA Real Estate Investment Management ESG Awards, focusing on five different categories: PREA Open-End Fund ESG Award, PREA Closed-End ESG Award, PREA ESG Momentum Award, PREA Social Impact ESG Award, and PREA Emerging Manager ESG Award. Once again, PREA received a tremendous response to its call for submissions for the awards, attracting nominations from 36 real estate funds with aggregate net assets under management of over $50 billion USD. Submissions were judged by a panel of experts from outside PREA, and independent of any investment manager or institutional investor.
“PREA is proud to recognize Cortland Growth and Income LP as the winner of 2025’s PREA ESG Momentum Award as it exemplifies what the award represents – innovative approaches and improvement in sustainability outcomes in private equity real estate funds,” said Greg MacKinnon, Director of Research at PREA. “By incorporating sustainability throughout its investment process, Cortland has been able to not only benefit its tenants and the communities within which it operates, but also mitigate risk and create value for its investors. Cortland shows that dedicated efforts on sustainability can create real change, with benefits for all stakeholders.”
This award is based on a survey Cortland completed covering fund information for the calendar year 2024. Cortland pays an annual fee to be a PREA member
